Shibuki-ice and swans in Lake Inawashiro, Jan. 22, 2016 （猪苗代湖 の しぶき氷 と 白鳥 ２０１６年１月２２日）
I have kept you waiting for so long since my last update on Dec. 9, 2015. This is my first and belated blog upload for the New Year. I visited frigid Lake Inawashiro on its northeastern shore today. At Tenjinhama Beach, Shibuki-ice was beginning to develop. At Shidahama Beach, swans and ducks were playing on the snow. I used JR Ban-etsu West Line train and walked to each site.
長らくお待たせしました。今年、最初のブログです。本日は、極寒の猪苗代湖（北東岸）を訪ねました。天神浜では、しぶき氷ができつつあり、志田浜では、白鳥やカモが雪で遊んでいました。電車（磐越西線）と徒歩で行きました。

Tenjinhama Beach of Lake Inawashiro is located near Kobirakata Tenmangu Shrine in a small hamlet of Kobirakata in Inawashiro Town. The famous Dr. Noguchi frequently visited the shrine in his youth with his father. Pictures above show a memorial sign board and a large shrine gate (Torii) each.
天神浜は、猪苗代町の小平潟（こびらかた）の集落（昔は小平潟宿でした）にある、小平潟天満宮（天神様を祀る）の近くにあります。天満宮には、野口博士も、幼少時に父親と一緒にお参りしています。写真は、その記念の標識と、天満宮の大きな鳥居です。
Shibuki-ice site is located about 30-minute walk from the shrine through a pine forest as a windbreak. Picture above shows the entrance to the path.
しぶき氷は、天満宮から、松林の防風林を３０分ほど歩いたところで、見れます。写真は、その道の入口です。

Shibuki-ice is a natural phenomenon that ice sticks to tree branches and rocks along the shore because icy water of the lake is blown onto them by strong winds. It is seen especially at Tenjinhama Beach in frigid cold winter period. Today, the phenomenon was still developing halfway as shown above. You can see a bunch of ice sticking to lower branches.
しぶき氷は、湖からの氷水が木の枝や岩に強く吹き付けられて貼り付く現象です。厳寒期の天神浜で、よく見られます。今日は、写真のように、まだ発展途上の段階で、低木の木の枝に、氷が貼り付いているのが、見られます。

Then I moved to Shidahama Beach about 5 km away on foot. There, many swans (Tundra swan) and ducks (Northern pintail) were playing on the beach as shown above.
そのあと、５ｋｍほど離れた、志田浜まで歩きました。そこには、白鳥（小白鳥）や、カモ（オナガガモ）が雪の浜辺で、遊んでいました。（写真）
