（Asaka Canal at Mihotamachi, Koriyama, July 22, 2018. 安積疏水 郡山 三穂田町 7/22/2018）
Today I followed some of the waterways of Asaka Canal in Koriyama, which was developed by the first national restoration project in Meiji Period and completed in 1882. This greatly contributed to the current rich production of excellent rice in this area as well as to the total development of Koriyama area. Asaka Canal was designated as a Japan Heritage. I pedaled my bike mainly through Osemachi, Otsukimachi and Mihotamachi districts, where rice fields have grown to rich green in this time of year at everywhere around. Photo above shows vast rich green rice fields alongside a long elevated 6th branch channel of Asaka Canal in Mihotamachi.
本日は、郡山市内の安積疏水の水路の一部を見て廻りました。安積疏水は，明治維新の国家プロジェクト１号として開発され、１８８２年に完成しました。これにより、郡山周辺は、おいしいお米がたくさん作れるようになり、町の大発展につながりました。安積疏水は、日本遺産に指定されました。今日は、市内の逢瀬町、大槻町、三穂田町の、見事な水田地帯をチャリで廻りました。写真は，三穂田町の水田を走る、安積疏水の第六分水路の一部で、高架式になっているものです。




My first stop was Natsuide village of Osemachi in the north, where I could see the main stream of Asaka Canal as shown above near the 2nd branch point. I also found somewhat terraced rice fields grown in rich green as shown above.
最初、北部の逢瀬町夏出地区の、第二分水路の近くの疏水幹線（写真）に行きました。近くには、写真の、棚田のような水田も見事になっていました。




Next stop was Otsukimachi, where I found the main stream of Asaka Canal near the 5th branch point as shown above. Just adjacent to this point a large rice field extended as shown in the picture above.
次に、大槻町で、第五分水路近くの幹線（写真）に行きました。脇には、写真の、見事な水田が広がっています。


The main stream flowed toward further south to carry the water for 6th and 7th branch in the south. Photo above shows another view of the main stream in Otsukimachi, with a green rice field right next to it.
疏水幹線は、更に南下し、第六と第七分水路に水を供給していきます。写真も、大槻町の別の疏水幹線です。

Finally, I came to Mihotamachi area, where I found a long elevated waterway as shown in the top, which was a part of the 6th branch of the canal. I climbed up a ladder and looked into the elevated water channel and confirmed clear water was flowing inside.
最後に、三穂田町の水田エリアで、高架式の水路に来ました。ここは、幹線から分岐した、第六分水路の一部になっています。はしごを登り、水路を覗き込んで、ちゃんと水が流れていることを確認しました。

（Lotus flowers at Shiramizu-Amidado, Iwaki, July 3, 2018. いわき 白水阿弥陀堂 ハス 7/3/2018）
Today I visited Shiramizu-Amidado site in Iwaki City, which was a national historic site. Lotus flowers in the pond were extremely beautiful as shown above, perfectly matching the atmosphere of Jodo-style garden and structures.
本日は、国の史跡になっている、いわき市の白水阿弥陀堂に行きました。浄土庭園の蓮が、写真のように、きれいに咲いていました。


The site is located about 30-minute walk from Uchigo Station of JR Joban Line. As I walked toward the site, I found a sign as shown above, which said that the national treasure site was 0.5km away along this road.
場所は、ＪＲ常磐線の内郷駅から、徒歩３０分程です。歩いていると、写真のような道標が案内してくれます。


At the entrance, there stood a brief description board of the site as shown above both in Japanese and English.
入口には、写真のように、日英の説明板があります。




Lotus pond is on the right hand side from the entrance and some other views this morning are shown above.
入って右手に行くと、蓮池があり、写真のような光景も見られます。


Photo above shows special variety of lotus called “Chusonji Lotus”. Only limited number of this variety was found at this site, in a pond beside the entrance bridge. The original seed believed to be 800 years old was found at Chusonji Temple in Iwate Prefecture, a world heritage site, and the plant was brought from there. Meanwhile, all the other lotus plants at this site were called “Kodaihasu” or ancient lotus. The origin of Kodaihasu lotus dates back to 2000 years ago.
上の写真は，中尊寺ハスです。この場所には、入口近くの橋の脇だけに、少しあります。岩手県の中尊寺（世界遺産）で発見された、８００年前の蓮の種から復元されたものです。他の蓮は全て、２０００年前の種から復元された、古代ハスです。


Photo above shows today’s solemn view of Shiramizu-Amidado, a national treasure building built in 1160 by a noble woman called Tokuhime. It has been preserved since then with periodic maintenance work.
上の写真は、本日の白水阿弥陀堂（国宝建築物）で、１１６０年に徳姫により建てられたものです。以来、定期的な補修をされながら，今日に至っています。

（Onahama Marine Bridge in Iwaki, July 1, 2018. 小名浜マリンブリッジ いわき 7/1/2018）
Today I walked along Onahama Marine Bridge in Iwaki. The bridge is located in Onahama Port which is the largest shipping plus fishing port in Fukushima as well as a major tourist attraction site. The bridge connects separate landfill part called Eastern Port with the main port. It is 927m long and 24.5m high above sea level at the highest point. The bridge was constructed mainly for industrial use, but a part of the pedestrian walkway has been open to public on every Sunday and is scheduled to continue through this November. Photo above was a view on the bridge today. A name plate of the bridge inscribed with Japanese characters appeared in front and robust suspension ropes were seen in the back.
本日は、いわきの小名浜マリンブリッジを歩きました。小名浜港は、福島最大の港で、各種の貨物や、漁港、また観光地にもなっています。マリンブリッジは、埋立地の東港と３号ふ頭を結び、長さ９２７ｍ、最大高さは海面から２４．５ｍになります。石炭などの輸送目的ですが、毎週日曜日には一般の歩行者に開放されてきました。今年１１月まで続く予定です。写真は、本日の橋の上で撮ったものです。橋の銘板が日本語で彫られ、そのうしろには、頑丈な吊りロープが見えています。


Photo above shows memorial plate placed at the entrance of the bridge. The location was about 10 minute walk from AEON Mall, a brand new shopping complex just opened last month.
写真は、橋の入口にある記念の銘板です。この場所は，６月にできたばかりの、イオンモールから歩いて１０分ほどです。


A brief description panel of the bridge stood at the site as shown above.

（Onahama Marine Bridge in Iwaki, July 1, 2018. 小名浜マリンブリッジ いわき 7/1/2018）
Several photos above show some of the bridge views as I walked upward along the walkway.
上の写真は、その後橋を歩いて登っていく間に撮ったものです。


Near the center I found an official description panel which said the construction started on August, 2010 and the bridge was completed on March, 2017.
橋の中央付近に、写真の建築要旨が書かれていました。


Today the bridge opened at 9 in the morning, but at around half past 10 the wind became stronger that the bridge management officials had to close the bridge in the middle. They told everyone on the bridge about the change. I was at the center of the bridge then, and I was the last person to leave. The photo above was taken during my walk back to the entrance, which showed pier no.2 including an aquarium “Aquamarine Fukushima” and the new shopping complex AEON Mall in the back.
橋は、今朝９時に開放されましたが、１０時半頃には風が大分強くなり、橋の管理者は途中で閉鎖せざるを得なくなりました。橋の上にいた人全員に連絡され、中央付近にいた私も戻りましたが、最後の１人でした。上の写真は、そのとき撮りましたが、２号ふ頭のアクアマリンふくしまと、その奥のイオンモールが写っています。
