An old National Route 289 in autumn, Oct. 31, 2016 （甲子高原の旧国道２８９の秋 ２０１６年１０月３１日）
Today, I pedaled along an old National Route 289, which runs along the source stream of the Abukuma River on Kashi Heights, Nishigo Village. Photo shows the Abukuma River flowing through autumn colored valley.
本日は、甲子高原（西郷村）を流れる阿武隈川の源流に沿って走る、旧国道２８９を走りました。源流は、山間の紅葉の中をぬって流れています。（写真）
On the roadside there was a sign post as shown above, which said that this is a source stream of the Abukuma River. The area was surrounded by autumn yellow colors of beech trees.
道脇に、阿武隈川の源流の標識がありました。この一帯は、ブナの黄葉に覆われています。
There was a large Katsura tree called Kenkatsura as shown above, which was a natural monument designated by Nishigo Village The tree is 320 years old and has been enshrined by local people as a sacred tree. There is a saber stuck into its trunk, which is considered to have conquered local evils.
近くに、剣桂（けんかつら）と呼ぶ、大きなカツラの木があり、西郷村の天然記念物に指定されています。樹齢は３２０年で、地元の人に、神木として祀られています。その幹に剣が刺さっており、これが諸悪を征服したとされています。
The road was blocked in the middle as shown above due to high risk of falling rocks. The road leads to Kashi Onsen (hot spring) about 3km away.
旧国道２８９は、途中落石危険のため、通行止になっていました。この道は、ここから３ｋｍ先の甲子温泉に通じています。（甲子温泉は、新国道から行けます。）
I stayed last night at Miyamaso Inn after visiting Nishinosato Trail. This area is called Shinkashi Onsen (hot spring resort). Miyamaso Inn and the adjacent Gohoso Inn share the same sulfate hot spring source, which wells up at 70 degrees Celsius in the back yard. The hot spring water was really fresh here. The other inns in this area use different hot spring source, which is coming all the way from Kashi Onsen 5km away.
昨日、西の郷（標高６００ｍ）のあと、写真のみやま荘まで登ってきて、泊りました。この一帯（標高８００ｍ）は、新甲子温泉といい、みやま荘と隣の五峰荘が、源泉を共有しています。敷地内から湧き出る７０℃の硫酸塩泉で、新鮮な掛け流しの湯に入れます。他の宿は、５ｋｍ離れた甲子温泉から湯を引いて使っています。

Falls at Nishinosato Trail and autumn Yukiwaribashi Bridge, Oct. 30, 2016 （西の郷遊歩道 の 滝 と秋の 雪割橋 ２０１６年１０月３０日）
Today, I visited Nishinosato Trail at Nishigo Village. The trail goes along the upper stream of the Abukuma River and has many waterfalls. Photo above shows one of them named Kumanosuberidai or "bears' waterslide". I walked around the whole trail and it was about 10km long with steep ups and downs.
本日は、西郷村にある、西の郷遊歩道を訪ねました。遊歩道は、阿武隈川に沿って、滝がいくつかあります。写真は、熊のすべり台 と呼ぶ滝です。遊歩道全体を歩きましたが、登り下り１０ｋｍありました。
Photo above is another waterfall named Hitoyasumino-taki or "Let's get a break falls". Autumn leaves around here were not fully colored, yet you can feel the atmosphere of the season.
写真は、一休みの滝 です。このあたりの紅葉はもう少しですが、秋の雰囲気は十分にでています。
There is a scenic bridge on the western end of the trail called Yukiwaribashi Bridge, which is over a deep valley along the Abukuma River. Photos above show today's autumn views from the bridge. Maybe it will take a few more days to be fully colored.
遊歩道の西の端に、雪割橋 という人気のスポットがあります。阿武隈川の流れる雪割渓谷にかかっています。写真は、橋から見た本日の景色です。あと数日で、紅葉のピークになります。

Choshigataki Falls with autumn leaves at Koriyama, Oct. 26, 2016 （紅葉に映える銚子ヶ滝（郡山）です ２０１６年１０月２６日 ）
Today, I walked along Choshigataki Trail which is one of seven mountain trails heading to the summit of Mount Adatara. It started from an entrance at Ishimushiro village of Koriyama City and it took 2.7km walk to get to Choshigataki Falls. Photo above shows 48m waterfall surrounded by autumn colors today. The trail to the waterfall is mostly moderate, but in the final stage a steep descent of 130m with makeshift ladders and chains welcomed me. But if you carefully and slowly move, the trail is kind of secure.
本日、安達太良山の７つの登山道の１つ、銚子ヶ滝登山口から歩きました。登山口は、郡山市の石筵（いしむしろ）地区にあり、銚子ヶ滝まで２．７ｋｍでした。写真は、紅葉に映える、高さ４８ｍの銚子ヶ滝です。道は、殆どなだらかでしたが、最後は１３０ｍの急降下があり、仮設の足場やくさりを使って降ります。（ゆっくり注意して動けば、安全です。）
Photo above shows the first trail entrance which is located along Bonari Green Line Road which is a prefectural road. I entered and started from here. As I started to walk, there appeared a paved road of less than 1 km long, and at the terminal there was the second trail entrance, where mountain trail started again.
写真が、母成グリーンライン（県道）沿いにある、最初の銚子ヶ滝登山口です。ここから山道を進むと、すぐに舗装道路が１ｋｍ弱続き、２番目の登山口が現れ、ここからまた山道になります。
I pedaled my bicycle to the trail entrance from my home. Along Bonari Green Line Road, which had a large scale cattle farm alongside, I found a rare cattle warning traffic sign as shown above.
登山口までは、自転車で行きましたが、母成グリーンライン沿いに、珍しい牛の絵の交通標識（写真）が現れます。近くに、大きな牧場があるためです。
