Kaiseikan Building in Koriyama City, July 30, 2015 （安積開拓の拠点、開成館、郡山市 ２０１５年７月３０日）
Today I visited Kaiseikan Building in Koriyama City. This building was the center of Asaka Development nearly 150 years ago which was the first National Development Project of the new Meiji Government.
本日は、郡山市の開成館を訪ねました。ここは、約１５０年前（１８７３年から始まる）の、明治新政府による安積開拓の拠点となった建物です。

Above photo shows a view of Kaiseikan. This building was built in quasi-Western style architecture and once it was designated as a National Historic Site. But now it was changed to a Heritage of Industrial Modernization selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
上が、開成館です。擬洋風建築で、前は国の史跡に指定され、現在は経済産業省の近代化遺産に指定されています。
The Emperor Meiji visited here for two times in 1876 and 1881. Above photo shows the stone monuments. Since then, the Imperial Families often visited here.
明治天皇は、１８７６年と１８８１年の２回、開成館を訪れました。写真は、その記念碑です。その後、皇族の方が、何回も訪れています。
The Emperor Meiji stayed at the 3rd floor of Kaiseikan on the first visit in 1876 as shown above.
明治天皇は、１８７６年、開成館の３階の写真のお部屋に泊まられました。
Above photo shows statues of Asaka Land Developers also placed in the third floor. Cornelis Johannes van Doorn is in the center who contributed much in the development of Asaka Canal
上の写真は、３階にある、安積開拓者の群像です。中央が、安積疎水開拓に貢献した、ファン・ドールン先生です。
In the Asaka Development Project, 500 former samurai families across Japan moved in and settled in Asaka district which is now Koriyama City. Above photos show a variety of the settlers' residences.
安積開拓では、全国各地から５００の士族が、安積の地（現郡山市）に入植しました。写真は、その当時の、様々な住居です。
本日は、郡山市の開成館を訪ねました。ここは、約１５０年前（１８７３年から始まる）の、明治新政府による安積開拓の拠点となった建物です。

Somanomaoi Festival and historic sites in Minamisoma City, July 26, 2015 （南相馬市 で 相馬野馬追 と史跡 ２０１５年７月２６日）
Today, main events of Somanomaoi Festival were held in Minamisoma City. I also visited some historic sites in the City.
本日は、相馬野馬追のメインの日です。その前後に、市内の史跡も訪ねました。

First I visited Daihisan Stone Buddha statues. This site is located in Odaka District of the City. Though it is still within the evacuation area, any residents and travelers can visit the site in the daytime. The site had been designated as National Historic Site.
最初は、大非山（だいひさん）の石仏です。最南部の小高（おだか）区にあり、避難区域内（避難解除準備区域）ですが、昼間は誰でも自由に見学できます。国指定の史跡です。（台帳を見ると、毎日、県外の全国各地から、来ていることがわかります。）

Daihisan Stone Buddha statues are said to be more than 1000 years old. Some of them are shown above.
大非山 の石仏は、１０００年以上前のものと、言われています。写真は、その一部です。迫力あります。
The site is also maintained as a public park as shown above. The surrounding area is very beautiful with rich green.
周囲は、美しい緑が豊かで、公園として整備されています。（管理人が、手入れを入念にしていました。）

Then I went to see the main events of Somanomaoi Festival at Hibarigahara Ground. The first event from noon was horse racing with armored soldiers and their own family flags mounted as shown above.
その後、原町区の 雲雀（ひばり）が原の祭場地 に行き、正午から、甲冑競馬 が行われます。（写真）
You can also watch a short footage above in order to feel the atmosphere of the race.

The second event was races by mounted soldiers to get shrine flags from the sky. This event is called Shinkisodatsusen. Above picture shows a scene.
次に、神旗争奪戦 があります。（写真）
The Somanomaoi Festival is held for three consecutive days in late July. During the events you happen to meet many horses on the road in the city such as shown above. A number of citizens join the festival with their own horses dressed in colorful cloths.
相馬野馬追祭は、７月最後の週末に３日連続行われます。この間は、相双地区の各地から、多数の馬が集まります。そのため、一般道で、写真のような馬に、何度も出会います。市民総参加で、そのパワーを感じました。
Finally, I visited another historic site of the city which was Sakurai Tumulus from 4th century. It is a front square back square type tumulus similar to Oyasuba Tumulus in Koriyama City. This site is also a National Historic Site.
最後に、市内の桜井古墳を訪ねました。４世紀後半の、前方後方墳で、この地の豪族のものです。郡山の大安場古墳と似ています。国指定の史跡です。
Moving a little ahead of the tumulus site I found some mega solar power plants. Above photo shows one of them.
古墳から少し先に、メガソーラー発電所が、複数ありました。写真は、その一つです。

Then I went to see the main events of Somanomaoi Festival at Hibarigahara Ground. The first event from noon was horse racing with armored soldiers and their own family flags mounted as shown above.
その後、原町区の 雲雀（ひばり）が原の祭場地 に行き、正午から、甲冑競馬 が行われます。（写真）

次に、神旗争奪戦 があります。（写真）

Somanomaoi Parade and horse racing (1st day of the festival), July 25, 2015, （相馬野馬追 お繰り出しと宵乗り競馬、２０１５年７月２５日）
Today I left Shinchi Town and pedaled toward south to Soma and Minamisoma City. This is the first day of the traditional Somanomaoi Festival and I could see horse parade and visit related shrine.
本日は、新地町から南へ、相馬市、南相馬市と進みました。伝統のお祭りの、相馬野馬追の行列に会い、また神社を訪ねました。

At first, I visited a building on the edge of the seashore at Matsukawaura, Soma City. The building had been severely hit by tsunami on March 11, 2011. It seemed totally recovered from the pictures (before and after) above, though the angle of the shot and the weather are not the same.
最初は、相馬市松川浦の岸際に立つ水産会社のビルを訪ねました。このビルは、津波被害を受けましたが、完全に直っていました。２０１２と２０１５年の写真を比べると、わかります。

Then I moved to the central part of Soma City near Somanakamura Shrine. I happened to meet the Somanomaoi parade as shown above. This is the first day of Somanomaoi Festival which is the National Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
次に、相馬市の中心にある、相馬中村神社を訪ねました。近くまで来ると、ちょうど、写真のように、相馬野馬追のお繰り出しの行列に会いました。祭りは、国の重要無形民俗文化財になっています。
The horse parade came from Somanakamura Shrine which is designated as National Important Cultural Property. The picture above shows front building of the shrine which was built in 1634.
行列は、相馬中村神社から出発しました。相馬中村神社は、１６３４年に建てられ、国の重文です。

There is another shrine of National Important Cultural Property in Soma City. This is called Suzumigaoka-Hachiman Shrine which was built in 1695. The front building called haiden is shown above. There are seven old buildings in the precincts all of which were designated as National Important Cultural Properties.
相馬市内には、もう１箇所、国の重文指定の神社があります。涼ヶ岡（すずみがおか）八幡神社で、１６９５に建てられたものです。境内には、合わせて７つの重文の建物があります。
Around the precincts of the shrine, there was chorus of min-min cicadas. I found one on the red lantern as shown above.
境内のまわりは、ミンミンゼミの大合唱でした。写真のように、赤い燈籠の上でも鳴いています。

I finally arrived at Hibarigahara Ground in Minamisoma City. This is the base ground for Somanomaoi Festival. Today, the first horse racing was performed here with neither amor nor family flags as shown above.
最後は、南相馬市にある、雲雀が原（ひばりがはら）祭場地に着きました。ここは、相馬野馬追祭りの、拠点になっています。本日は、甲冑も指旗も無い、宵乗り競馬が行われました。
