Refreshing Urabandai in late spring, May 29, 2015, （裏磐梯（小野川不動滝、五色沼など） ２０１５年５月２９日）
Today I visited some destinations of Urabandai area: Onogawafudo Falls, Lake Hibara, Rengenuma Pond, and Goshikinuma Ponds.
本日は、北塩原村、裏磐梯の各所を訪ねました。小野川不動滝、桧原湖、レンゲ沼、そして五色沼です。

The first stop was Onogawafudo Falls which was located a little farther than Lake Onogawa. It was an amazing fall of 40m high as shown above. I really had refreshing cool air with much negative ion. It was a 20-minute walk from parking space.
最初は、小野川湖の末端の近くにある、小野川不動滝です。写真のように、４０ｍの落差で豪快です。マイナスイオンのひんやりした空気で、とてもさわやかでした。道路の駐車場から、２０分位歩きます。
Then I visited Lake Hibara which was the largest in Urabandai area. This lake was created by the massive eruption of Mt. Bandai in 1888. I enjoyed cruise on the lake aboard a small motorboat together with five members of Omotenashi Fukushima Guides. The photo shows one of the views from the boat.
次に、裏磐梯では最大の桧原湖に行きました。この湖は、１８８８年の磐梯山の大噴火でできました。本日は、おもてなし福島通訳ガイドの仲間と一緒に、モーターボートのクルーズ（２０分）に乗りました。写真は、その光景の一部です。

And then, I walked around Rengenuma Pond trail. I found a group of pretty white flowers of Disporum along the trail path as shown above.
次に、レンゲ沼の遊歩道を歩きました。ここでは、チゴユリの群生で、ちょうど花が咲いているのに、出会いました。
Finally I arrived at Goshikinuma Pond area. There was a wetland zone in the Goshikinuma Pond area. I found some kinds of late spring or early summer flowers there.
最後は、五色沼エリアに行き、まず、湿地園の周囲を歩きました。ここに、晩春、初夏の花をたくさん見付けました。

First, there were many flowers of Japanese primrose or Primula japonica as shown above.
最初は、写真の クリンソウ （九輪草）です。

Next I found yellow flowers of Sawaoguruma or Senecio pierotii as shown above.
次に、写真のサワオグルマ（沢小車）です。

I also found many flowers of showy orchis or Dactylorhiza aristata as shown above. Usually I see this flower in high mountain marshes. So this was a surprise to me.
写真のハクサンチドリも、たくさんありました。高山の湿原でしか、見たことがなかったので、私にとっては驚きでした。

I also found many purple flowers of Gentiana zollingeri as shown above along Goshikinuma trail path.
五色沼の遊歩道では、写真のフデリンドウ（筆竜胆）もたくさんありました。
Today's Colors of Goshikinuma Ponds are shown below. These colors are made by allophane particles in the water reflecting sunlight.
本日の、五色沼の色です（下）。この色は、水中のアロフェンと言う物質が、太陽光に反射してこのように見えます。

Photo above shows today's color of Benten-numa Pond. The pond shows beautiful cobalt blue color through the fresh green leaves of spring trees.

And then, I walked around Rengenuma Pond trail. I found a group of pretty white flowers of Disporum along the trail path as shown above.
次に、レンゲ沼の遊歩道を歩きました。ここでは、チゴユリの群生で、ちょうど花が咲いているのに、出会いました。
Finally I arrived at Goshikinuma Pond area. There was a wetland zone in the Goshikinuma Pond area. I found some kinds of late spring or early summer flowers there.
最後は、五色沼エリアに行き、まず、湿地園の周囲を歩きました。ここに、晩春、初夏の花をたくさん見付けました。

I also found many flowers of showy orchis or Dactylorhiza aristata as shown above. Usually I see this flower in high mountain marshes. So this was a surprise to me.

I also found many purple flowers of Gentiana zollingeri as shown above along Goshikinuma trail path.

Renewed Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Hall & Aizu Matsudaira Family Tombs, May 21, 2015 （新装の野口英世記念館、及び会津松平家院内御廟、２０１５年５月２１日）
Today I visited Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Museum at Inawashiro Town. It was renewed and reopened in this April. Next, I visited Aizu Lord Matsudaira Family Tombs in Aizuwakamatsu City. I saw a tremendous figure on the stone monument of each lord.
本日は、猪苗代町にある、野口英世記念館を訪ねました。この４月に新装オープンしました。そのあと、会津若松市の、会津松平家の墓所（院内御廟）を訪ねました。迫力のある神獣の碑石が見られます。

Hideyo Noguchi was born in Inawashiro Town in 1876, and died in Ghana (West Africa) in 1928. He became a world famous doctor and bacteriologist. His birthplace close to the shore of Lake Inawashiro has been well preserved until today in the back of the memorial hall.
野口英世は、１８７６年に、猪苗代町に生まれ、１９２８年に、西アフリカの現在のガーナ共和国で亡くなりました。世界的な、医者、細菌学者で、彼の生家は、猪苗代湖畔の記念館の裏（と言うか、生家の前に記念館ができた）に、今日まで大切に保存されてきました。
Above photos are the new Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Hall, his stone monument, and his birthplace.
上の写真は、新装の野口英世記念館と、そこにある、野口英世の石碑、そして、生家です。
Then I stopped at Aizu Bukeyashiki where some of the old houses in samurai period were preserved.
次に、会津武家屋敷に寄りました。ここは、江戸時代の家老、西郷頼母などの住宅が保存されています。（次に行く、松平家墓所のすぐ手前にあります。）
Above photo shows tea ceremony house called Rinkaku. This is the reproduction of the real one in Tsurugajo Castle. The atmosphere of the house was quiet and aesthetic.
上の写真は、茶室麟閣（りんかく）です。鶴ヶ城の麟閣（本物）を再現したものです。
At last I visited Aizu Clan Lord Matsudaira Family Tombs in Aizuwakamatsu City. Aizu Matsudaira Family had started from Masayuki Hoshina in 1643 followed by eight lords and the last lord was Katamori Matsudaira. Since Masayuki was a brother of the third Shogun Iemitsu Tokugawa, Matsudaira Family was very close to the Tokugawa Shogunate. This site is designated as National Historic Site.
最後に、会津松平家の墓所を訪ねました。会津藩松平家は、１６４３年の保科正之に始まり、最後の松平容保まで９代続きました。保科正之が、３代将軍徳川家光の弟であり、松平家は、徳川将軍家と大変近い存在でした。この墓所は、国指定の史跡になっています。
There was a very large stone figure of turtle like divine beast on the bottom of each stone monument as shown above. These were really powerful and amazing.
写真にあるように、各墓の碑石の台には、大きな神獣、亀趺（きふ）という、が居ます。とても、迫力があります。
Also, the grave field was covered with full bloom of Iris japonica as shown above.
また、墓所は、写真のように、ちょうどシャガの群生が、満開でした。

Ukrainian artist depicts Fukushima, May 7, 2015 （ウクライナの画家、福島を描く ２０１５年５月７日）
Today, I visited Embassy of Ukraine in Tokyo and looked at paintings by Ukrainian artist Zoia Skoropadenko. All of the works include images of symbolic folk arts of Fukushima such as Okiagarikobushi doll, Miharugoma toy horse, and Oborisoma ware. The exhibition is open through June 19, 2015 every day excluding Saturday, Sunday, and Ukrainian holidays.
本日は、東京のウクライナ大使館で、ウクライナ人画家の描いた、福島関連の絵を見てきました。全ての絵に、福島の民芸品、例えば、起上り小法師、三春駒、大堀相馬焼、赤ペコなどが描かれています。展示は、６月１９日まで、土日とウクライナの祝日を除き、毎日だれでも見れます（無料）。

Ukraine and Fukushima have in common that both are severely affected by nuclear power plant disaster. I am greatly delighted to understand that the Ukrainian artist has special warm hearted interest toward Fukushima.
ウクライナ（チェルノブイリ原発があった）と福島は、原子力発電所の事故を被災した共通点があります。今回、ウクライナの一人の画家が、福島に思いを寄せている姿を見て、感動しました。
